Maintain image aspect ratio

What happens when the aspect ratio (ratio between the width and height) of the picture is different from that of the slideshow? It depends on whether or not the Maintain image aspect ratio check box is checked.

Maintain image aspect ratio

If the Maintain image aspect ratio check box is checked, then the picture is displayed with it's correct aspect ratio in the slideshow, however there will be spaces inside the slideshow. In the figure below, the blue rectangle represents the slideshow. The picture is displayed with the right aspect ratio but spaces are created in the slideshow.

"Maintain image aspect ratio" is checked
If the picture format is JPG, the spaces are filled with white background. If the picture format is PNG, the spaces are transparent.

If the Maintain image aspect ratio check box is unchecked, then the aspect ratio of the picture will not be preserved. The picture will get stretched to fit in the slideshow.
